Why brush your dogs teeth?
There really is no excuse for ignoring your dog’s dental care, but many dog owners do. The American Veterinary Dental Society found that 80 percent of dogs have periodontal disease before the age of 3. Ignoring the need for dental care could result in your dog’s health suffering and ultimately reduce his life.
Tips on keeping your dog's teeth clean
1. Brush at least 3 times per week to get maximum benefit
2. Don’t use human toothpaste unless you have taught your dog to spit!
3. Replace the toothbrush when the bristles become frayed or every 3 months, as the brush will start to harbour microorganisms.
4. Believe it or not, dog toothpastes are not minty fresh. Instead they are flavored with a more palatable taste dogs like. If you want your doggy kisses to be minty fresh, then use a canine breath freshener.
5. Follow toothbrushing with praise and a healthy reward so he/she looks forward to it next time.
